Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about OremAI, digital footprint scanning, data removal, and your POPIA rights.

Getting Started

When you enter your name and email on the OremAI homepage, our system queries dozens of publicly accessible data sources, data broker databases, and online platforms to identify where your personally identifiable information (PII) is exposed. The scan takes approximately 60 seconds and produces an exposure score from 0 to 100, with a breakdown of discovered data points. The free scan provides a summary view; paid plans unlock detailed results and removal services.

OremAI scans a comprehensive range of sources including major data broker databases (such as TrueCaller, WhitePages SA, InfoBel SA, and Pipl), social media platforms, public records, people-search engines, dark web forum dumps, and other publicly accessible databases. We continuously expand our source list to provide the most thorough coverage possible. Our scanning engine uses Firecrawl technology to crawl and extract data from web sources in real time.

Your exposure score is calculated using a proprietary algorithm that considers multiple factors: the number of sources where your data appears, the sensitivity of the exposed data (email alone scores lower than email plus phone plus address), the type of platform (a dark web listing scores higher than a public directory), and how easily the data can be used for identity theft or impersonation. Scores range from 0 (minimal exposure) to 100 (critical risk).

Data Removal

Once you subscribe to a paid plan, our system automatically submits opt-out and removal requests to every data broker and platform where your information was found. These requests follow each broker's specific removal process, whether that's an online opt-out form, an email request, or a formal POPIA-based deletion demand. We track each request and follow up until removal is confirmed. You can monitor progress in your dashboard.

Removal timelines vary by platform. Most data brokers process removal requests within 7 to 30 days. Some platforms, particularly international ones, may take up to 45 days. Under POPIA, South African organisations are legally required to respond to deletion requests within a reasonable time. We send follow-up requests if a broker has not actioned the removal within the expected timeframe. Your dashboard provides real-time status updates for each removal request.

Data re-listing is a common issue — brokers often re-acquire information from public records and other sources. With our monitoring plans, OremAI continuously checks for re-listing and automatically submits new removal requests when your data reappears. This ongoing protection is one of the key benefits of maintaining an active subscription. We will notify you immediately if re-listing is detected.

POPIA & Legal

The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) is South Africa's data privacy law, fully enforceable since 1 July 2021. It regulates how organisations collect, store, process, and share personal information. POPIA gives you, the data subject, specific rights over your personal data, including the right to access, correct, and delete your information. OremAI is built from the ground up to be POPIA-native, meaning every feature and process is designed with POPIA compliance in mind.

Under POPIA, you have the right to: be notified when your personal information is collected; access the personal information an organisation holds about you; request correction of inaccurate information; request deletion of information that is no longer necessary; object to the processing of your personal information; and lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa. OremAI helps you exercise these rights by identifying where your data is held and facilitating removal.

While OremAI is primarily designed for POPIA compliance within South Africa, many of the data brokers we target operate internationally and are also subject to the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). When submitting removal requests to international brokers, we invoke both POPIA and GDPR rights where applicable. However, for dedicated GDPR-only services targeting EU data controllers, we recommend consulting a GDPR-specific provider in addition to using OremAI.

Account & Billing

OremAI uses an offline invoice-based payment system. When you select a plan and complete the order form, we generate a professional tax invoice and send it to your email within 24 hours. Payment is accepted via EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) or direct bank deposit into our South African business account. Your subscription is activated once payment is confirmed, typically within 1-2 business days. All invoices include 15% South African VAT.

Yes, you can upgrade your plan at any time. Contact us at support@oremai.co.za to request an upgrade. We will issue a pro-rated invoice for the difference between your current plan and the new plan for the remainder of your billing period. The upgrade takes effect immediately upon payment confirmation.

You can cancel your subscription at any time by emailing legal@oremai.co.za. Upon cancellation, your access to paid features will continue until the end of your current billing period. No refunds are issued for partial periods. After your subscription expires, your scan data is retained for 30 days, then permanently deleted. You may request immediate data deletion at any time.
